Local Emergency Service Personnel met at the Sevier County EOC this afternoon to listen to the US National Weather Service Morristown Tennessee‘s latest update regarding the current Winter Weather, which is impacting our region.
The NWS has indicated that Sevier County remains under a High Wind Warning, and that we may see some small amounts of ice caused by the winter weather through this evening, but the wintry mix conditions are expected to transition to rain through the overnight hours. Some winter impacts are expected Sunday night into Monday morning as temperatures are expected to drop below freezing Monday through early next week.
Please see the attached slides from the NWS Briefing. Please continue to monitor local weather & road conditions, and be prepared for impacts from this winter weather event.
Current Road Closures:
GSMNP: Hwy 441 / Newfound Gap Rd
County and city road departments operate on a priority schedule during winter weather events, treating primary roads first. Vehicles should never be left in the roadway, as this prevents road crews from treating roads and delays emergency response.
• Check your supply of food and drinking water to last several days
• Ensure you have enough prescription medications, medical supplies, and any necessary medical equipment
• Review your winter weather kit, including flashlights, extra batteries, blankets, and portable phone chargers
• Fuel vehicles ahead of time and check tires, windshield wipers, and antifreeze levels
• Plan for limited or delayed travel, especially in shaded areas, higher elevations, and on less-traveled secondary roads
• Be prepared for possible power outages caused by downed trees or power lines
• Have a plan for safe alternative heating sources if needed
• Use generators outdoors only and never inside a home, garage, or enclosed space
• If using kerosene or other fuel based heaters, ensure proper ventilation and follow manufacturer safety instructions
• Keep a battery-powered radio available to receive weather and emergency updates
• Check on neighbors, family members, and those who may need extra assistance
