Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing today, and sunshine will help improve conditions across Sevier County. County and city road crews continue working hard to clear and treat roadways.
While some primary roads are improving, many secondary, residential, and tertiary roads remain impacted by snow and ice and may still be slick or hazardous. Especially with the frigid temperatures we experienced overnight.
Residents and visitors are strongly encouraged to use caution and limit travel if possible. If you must travel:
• Allow extra time to reach your destination
• Reduce speed and increase following distance
• Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns
• Watch for black ice in shaded areas and on bridges
• Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle
Please do not leave vehicles in roadways if you become stuck. Stalled or abandoned vehicles prevent road crews and emergency responders from safely doing their jobs.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as crews continue recovery efforts.
For emergencies, dial 911.
There are no major changes to report at this time. Snow continues to fall across Sevier County, and road conditions are continuing to deteriorate.
All roadways remain impacted by snow and potentially ice. Travel conditions remain hazardous.
Residents and visitors are strongly encouraged to stay off the roads and remain at home if at all possible. Road crews continue working around the clock, but snow is reaccumulating quickly due to frigid temperatures.
Sevier County remains under a Winter Storm Warning, along with an Extreme Cold Warning for the eastern portion of the county and a Cold Weather Advisory for the western portion.
If you must travel and reach a point where you cannot continue, please do not leave your vehicle in the roadway. Abandoned vehicles prevent crews from clearing roads and delay emergency responders.
We will continue to share updates as conditions change. Thank you for your patience as crews work hard to keep our community safe.
